APPOINTMENT PREPARATION
What will be tested during my DOT exam?
  
1. Vision: Components of vision that are tested include depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision, and visual acuity by use of a Snellen Chart.

2. Hearing: Tested by forced whisper or audio booth, hearing must be present in at least one ear.

3. Urinalysis: Done by chem strip analysis, protenuria or glucose in the urine are being looked for.

4. Vitals: Height, weight, pulse, and temperature are taken. Risk factors for OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) are also looked for, including through examining BMI (calculated by height and weight) and neck size (circumference). If risk factors are present, further investigation by questionairre and exam will be done to assess whether OSA is present or could develop.

5. General Physical Exam: This exam includes inspection and examinaion of the ears, eyes, nose and throat, heart and lungs, abdomen, musculoskeletal system, and nervous system, including coordination and reflexes.

What should I do to get ready for my exam?
When you make an appointment with us, we will provide you with comprehensive information on what to expect and bring to your exam. Here is an overview of the items we will ask you to bring to your exam:  

  • State-issued photo ID

  • Any waiver(s) that you have (For example, for diabetes if you are insulin-dependent)

  • Any medical release(s) that you have (For example, a recent stress test for any recent cardiac incidents, such as MI, bypass, or stint placement)

  • If you use a CPAP, CPAP log usage from (at least) the most recent 30 days
